Jumping into San Francisco Bay

Stop 2 on our Vertigo tour was Fort Point – where Madeleine jumped into San Francisco Bay – right next to the Golden Gate Bridge. It must have been freezing! It’s one of the best scenes in the movie and we were determined to find the spot. We could see it from our hotel room – miles out in the distance. It was a gorgeous spring day and most of the walking was downhill. Funny how we see plenty of people walking downhill, but hardly anyone walking uphill…. The last hour or so of the walk was through an area call Presidio, a newly reclaimed nature reserve area where we joined scores of joggers and dog walkers on the path alongside the sea. When we arrived at Fort Point, we were slightly disappointed as it has been fenced off (to stop silly Vertigo tourists from jumping in I wonder?) Still, we were near enough.
