Que Syrah Syrah - March 5th

We were tasting the wines like pros. En route we would read from the information we had collected (bursting into song everytime the term Syrah came up - "que sera sera..."). Sanford winery turned out to be a very good one, as did Firefox. I’m glad we didn’t give up the pinots. Amy would come out with phrases like “I’m getting pears” and “It’s tight” and occasionally “fishcakes” when she slyly read the wrong part of the tasting notes (i.e. what the wine goes well with). We visited Buttonwood and were told all about the annual Shiraz wine festival in Iran by the pourer. When we looked at him skeptically, he went on to tell us about Islam’s tolerant attitude to the alcohol consumption as stated in the Koran. We didn’t respond to that one. Where would we start? We were also treated to a lecture about in what ways the US embraces the metric system (but for the paperwork….). Fascinating I’m sure, but we had wines to taste inside so left the guy to his musings.
Apart from the wine tasting, we also visited Gaviota state beach and Buellton (both featured in the movie Sideways), and also a cool waterfall in Nojoqui park while Amy went for her run. That night we ate at The Hitching Post in Buellton for the third slap-up in a row. The following day we left Danish Fairyland and headed further south to Santa Barbara.
