Second visit to SLO
We left the city and were soon on Highway 101 heading north. We weren’t sure where we were heading for. We passed turn offs for Goleta, Solvang, Buellton, Santa Maria and Pismo beach but we thought we’d like to see San Luis Obispo again and stopped there for lunch. The easy option would have been to go to Natural café again as we know it’s good, but, we took a risk and ate at Mother’s Tavern which was also excellent. The food in California has been excellent everyday. We had coffee at Rudolf’s and people watched through the window. We call it the “Coffee to Go” town as people are wandering around with tall paper cups wherever you look. People here are less body conscious here than in Santa Barbara (in Santa Barbara, the radio had adverts for plastic surgery and day spas, here the ads were for more run of the mill things). Streets in San Luis are named quaintly after trees and signposted with Celtic-style font. Houses are more affordable and you have a view of the hills no matter where you are. A lot of people drive pick up trucks, often with a couple of dogs in the back. Will this be Amy and George in a couple of months? There’s a really good bookshop here and I’m not sure how David managed to resist a second visit.
